Design copyright is the next big issue

Am I alone in discovering that, in this digital age, there is, maybe, a new issue to compete with the endless debate about free pitching – design copyright. We have recently received a few requests for Quark files to be supplied along with final print. PDF files are fine, but Quark files will surely challenge our integrity.

Should we give these willingly? If not, are we being too precious? Or simply trying to protect our reputations? Or are we just after more money?

Is it time that the design industry adopted conditions of usage similar to photographers and illustrators and calculate fee structures accordingly?
