Design foundation set up in Romania

Romania’s first design foundation has been set up to tap into local clients’ needs. The voluntary body Design For Transformation established the foundation with UK Government backing through the Know How Fund.

The DFT’s research showed that while most Romanian companies understood the value of design, managers felt badly informed on the subject.

The foundation, based in Bucharest, will be headed by a DFT member. UK designers will provide services such as training and professional practice seminars for both designers and managers. “The DFT is a resource which the foundation can plunder,” says DFT programme director Chris Spencer.

Two Edinburgh-based DFT members, David Gerrard of Gerrard & Medd and Ken Craig of Graphic Partners, are currently giving a design awareness seminar in the city of Braila.
