Graduate recruited as manager

Worcestershire toy manufacturer TP Toys has recruited a product design manager through the Teaching Company Scheme, which aims to give graduates hands-on experience of industry.

Industrial design graduate Matthew Lyons has been recruited to the company after taking part in a TCS-organised project to redesign a number of products. As part of the project, Lyons introduced design procedures which have increased profits at the manufacturer by more than 100 000 by saving on production costs.

Lyons’ appointment follows a two- year project involving TP Toys and Brunel University’s Design Research Centre, which saw the improvement of several product designs.

TP Toys, which specialises in outdoor toys such as climbing frames, is now planning to expand its in-house design team, adding CAD technology.
