Lynda Relph-Knight’s Comment (DW 24 January) questions why no designers were on the New Year’s Honours List.
We designers are good at telling each other how good we are, but the outside world wants to know why we are good: what have we created that is really new?
There is a difference between good, competent designers and genuine fresh thinkers whose creations stand the test of time. Think back over the last decade – which products stand out as being really different and innovative?
I can only think of the Duracell Flip Top torches and the Dyson vacuum cleaners.
