Eco-friendly gift store walks on the wild side

Wildthing is the first in a potential chain of environmentally responsible giftware shops, with interiors created by JGSP Design and graphics by London consultancy The Team.

The 80m2 shop opens on Saturday in Kingston, Surrey. “We are planning another one next year, either in Richmond or Covent Garden, with the same design team,” says ex-lawyer James Lawless, who is behind the Wildthing concept.

It will sell products that promote the protection of the habitats of wild animals. “Fair trade” goods imported from developing countries and products by UK designers will be on sale. These include the Sud Tub by Glasgow consultancy One Foot Taller (DW 15 September).

“We designed it to feel like a little oasis on the high street. The store has a stone floor and willow horse-jumping hurdles as a backdrop to the shelves,” says JGSP designer Des Harvey.

Tables and shelves are made from recycled washing up liquid containers.
