Well, we know who can afford a seat in First Class. The latest British Rich List to be published by the Sunday Times – compulsory weekend reading – features only two designers out of a 500-strong list of contenders.

The latest British Rich List to be published by the Sunday Times – compulsory weekend reading – features only two designers out of a 500-strong list of contenders.

Industrial designer James Dyson takes pole position at number 321, thanks to his success with vacuum cleaners, washing machines and court cases.

And Sir Martin Sorrell, WPP Group big cheese, is ranked an impressive 446, just ahead of goalkeeper Mark Bosnich and singer Annie Lennox.

Clearly the design industry lags behind telecoms and computing in the finance stakes, but we don’t do it for the money, do we?
