New Routemaster design decision put back to Christmas

The winning design for London’s new Routemaster bus may not be revealed until the end of December.

It was initially understood that the announcement would be made at the end of this month. This deadline was then pushed back until 10 November.

A Transport for London spokesman says, ‘It could take until Christmas.’ He confirms that no shortlist will be announced prior to the winning design being named.

Other designs will instead be shown in an exhibition after the winner has been named.

The winning design will be subject to a tendering process, prototyping and testing following the announcement. This will either be a complete design from the Design a New Bus for London competition, or a hybrid design incorporating elements of the conceptual Imagine a Bus for London competition. Both contests were organised by TfL.
