Man hit by meteor then eaten by large dog

With regards to the illustration of one of the new Christmas stamps in news (DW 24 September), I was puzzled as to what the image on the stamp was actually saying.

It appeared to me that it was depicting a man, who, having been struck down by a meteor, was about to be eaten by a large grey dog on a windswept and barren landscape.

Is this an accurate interpretation? Please could someone clarify this for me.
