David Gerrard, director at Edinburgh consultancy Gerrard & Medd, is a stay-at-home type.

“There’s a lot to do in Edinburgh in the summer,” says Gerrard, pictured with his daughter Lottie.

“We saw the largest pipe band in the world, and it was open season for performers in Holyrood Park. Not forgetting the festival – why bother going abroad?” he says.
