Bowling alley group Hollywood Bowl is introducing a café format, created by Butler Cornfield Dedman, to differentiate it from other fast food outlets located within bowling alley environments.

The format will trade as Café Original to capitalise on the reputation of The Original Brewing Company, the in-house pub chain developed by BCD which already operates at Hollywood Bowl sites.

The first venue to include the café opens in Cardiff later this month. If successful, Café Original may replace the Wendy’s burger franchises. BCD director Mike Cornfield says: “The new design is about moving away from the visual signals of fast food.”

Pub group Bass Taverns is rebranding its Fork and Pitcher chain as Vintage Inns, with an identity created by BCD. The 80-strong chain is presented as a series of individual pubs rather than a chain. A spokesman says Fork & Pitcher, a title only used internally, didn’t reflect the pubs’ nature as accurately as Vintage Inns. The new identity will see minimal use on pubs themselves.
