Millennium gives an opportunity to demonstrate design’s merits

I am heartened to see the Government is now playing an active role promoting UK design. I have high hopes for Tony Blair’s new foray into our business.
Let’s hope this helps highlight how we as designers have played an important role in making London a modern, global, cultural capital, further educate British industry by helping it understand how design can be used to make it world leader again and tell the public exactly what, why and how we do what we do.
I’d like to suggest this education process starts at Millennium Central (the organisation charged with managing design for the millennium). I was surprised and shocked when I called them recently and found I was speaking to a person who didn’t know what product design was! It seems we need to get back to basics!
