Furniture designer Tom Dixon will take on the full-time job of design manager for Habitat UK on 5 January.

Dixon will be London-based and work on product design for the retailer, focusing on furniture, products and textiles. He fills the position left vacant by Suzie Benedict in March. He will head a four-strong in-house design team, which includes newly appointed design co-ordinator Julia Leakey, and will also commission work from outside designers.

Dixon will liaise closely with his opposite number for Habitat’s French operation, Massimiliano Raggi. Both Dixon and Raggi are responsible to group design director Laure de Gaudmaris.

According to Habitat UK communications manager Ben Weaver, the new job offers Dixon “enormous scope to work internationally”.

Habitat is yet to announce the appointment of a designer for its Bluewater site in Essex.
