Welcome to the new Fether Christmas

Do you practice your ho ho ho’s in the bathroom mirror and wear a jolly red outfit and beard at all times? Are you, in fact, a professional Santa?

Forget it then, for Ben Fether, co-founder of the FM Group, can dash through snow in a one-horse open sleigh better than anyone.

Fether beat would-be Santas from a specialist agency to become the major figure in Virgin Retail’s Christmas campaign.

His reign began after FM Group subsidiary Design Clinic started searching for the right Santa in early December.

Director Dave Dragon trolled through hundreds of agency Santas – then Fether put on the outfit for a joke.

“Once Ben had slipped into the red costume I couldn’t stop him,” says Dragon. “He was away. A natural.” Apparently Fether was the only one who could “be funky, wear platform shoes and look really wild”.

“He was better and cheaper than anyone else,” says a Design Clinic spokeswoman.

Fether is reported to have sung “Uh, uh Rudolph, don’t you step on my red suede shoes.” He’s obviously no Virgin Santa.
