Leicester group Newenglish is to design a corporate identity for a 3.6m performing arts and media centre in Birmingham.

Called The Drum, the centre has been awarded 1.8m from the Arts Council’s National Lottery fund and will be dedicated to the arts and culture of local African, Caribbean and Asian communities.

Newenglish won a credentials pitch against Landor Associates and Design Narrative.

The Drum’s marketing consultant Richard Hadley says: “Newenglish was the only consultancy which could show a clear understanding of The Drum and its vision and could also demonstrate a strong track record in corporate identity.”

The identity is due by the end of this year and The Drum is scheduled to open in late 1997.
