Design House mountaineer goes to hell and back

Design House designer Tony Collins has scaled Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain at 4808m, in aid of the Tony Morris Trust Foundation.

The charity provides equipment to help disabled young people enjoy outdoor activities at the Harlow Outdoor Activity Centre.

Collins, who raised £300, describes the climb as ‘mind-numbingly boring’, though an encounter with his personal ‘hell on earth’ en route to the top did break the tedium somewhat.

‘We got to a refuge hut at 4362m in which there was a sign saying ‘if you do not acclimatise you will die’. There was also frozen puke on the walls,’ he says. Lovely.

His next challenge will be the Three Peaks challenge – Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike, though he admits his girlfriend is ‘having kittens’ at the thought. Retire mate.
