Twins fashion themselves on a prize acceptance

There was a bit of a double take on Tuesday night when fledgling fashion designer Christina Burke took top prize in a new student contest supported by the Chartered Society of Designers.

Emotionally shaken at winning £5000 – the ticket to her MA, she said – Burke was close to tears as she accepted the Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker Student Fashion Awards honour. But only seconds later emerged all smiles to thank the judges.

Only when her doppelganger appeared in the wings did it dawn that Christina is a twin and her sister Christine was kindly doing the PR bit for her.

Confusing for the judges, but pity the tutors at Central St Martins College of Art and Design where they are both students. Still as the course is awarded £2000 as part of the prize, we doubt it’s too worried.
