Crunch time for Apple London store

Apple Computer has confirmed that its UK flagship store in London’s Regent Street will open on 20 November, as predicted by Design Week (DW 30 September).

Apple Computer chief executive Steve Jobs announced the details of the grand opening and outlined the store’s elements at a special event in the US last week.

Architect Gensler and design consultancies Eight Inc and ISP Design are all working on the design of the store. The ‘creative hub’ of the store, according to Jobs, will be called The Studio. This is a space where customers will be taught how to use Apple products for photography, music and film one-on-one.

The two-floor shop also features a 14m-long Genius Bar – where experts will answer customers’ technical questions – and a ‘state-of-the-art’ 64-seat theatre used to host workshops.

As predicted, the launch of the store will coincide with the final day of the MacExpo show at the Business Design Centre in London.
