Diana’s death delays Demos

The release of the Demos report on rebranding Britain has been put back because of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales .

The report, Renewing Our Identity, was commissioned by the Design Council and looks into the way Britons see themselves and how they are perceived by the rest of the world.

Demos’ research has discovered a generation gap between young and old Britons’ attitudes, with the young feeling less sure of Britain’s identity.

Overseas there is a backward image of Britain based on perceptions of heritage and how we trade, says a Demos spokesman.

The report will present six ‘stories’ about what Britain is, and suggests the setting up of units at Downing Street and within the Cabinet to deal with the issue.

Renewing Our Identity will now be released next Tuesday or Wednesday.
