Textiles gallery to open in Manchester

A new 1m gallery at The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester opens on 15 September. The Fibres, Fabrics and Fashion Gallery has been supported by a 400 000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

Architect Simpson Associates in Manchester has refurbished the former warehouse and completed the interior fit out in sympathy with the 19th century railway building.

The exhibits are displayed on the level of the old railway tracks while the platforms act as walkways for the viewing public. Glass bridges, which are designed to move, link the platforms together over the railway tracks.

Exhibition design and signage were carried out in-house, as was the design of the logo.
