Old directors don’t give the new blood a break

In response to Benn Achilleas (Letters, DW 22 July), perhaps he has a poor recollection of his graduation, as he seems to expect new designers to have the skills that he currently possesses as the director of a company.

If he cannot find a junior designer at New Blood, or the graduate shows he visited during ‘the last however many weeks’, then may I suggest he should advertise for an experienced designer and dispense with juniors entirely at Neoco Design.

I know that the cream of the crop from my university were present at New Blood and such graduates have now been snapped up by the likes of The Chase and Clock. Obviously, I can’t defend interviewees who turn up unprepared, but a final blanket insult aimed at all recent graduates would certainly not encourage me to apply.

I would love to see Mr Achilleas’ portfolio at age 22.
