CM Design creates ‘industrial’ Aberdeen venue for Brewdog

Scottish brewery Brewdog is opening its first bar, in Aberdeen, with interiors by CM Design Consultants. Brewdog is responsible for new super-strength beer The End of History, packaged in stuffed dead animals.

The brewery appointed the Glasgow-based consultancy in January, on the strength of CM Design’s work for fashion retailer Cult. Brewdog talked to five other groups before choosing CM Design.

’Brewdog liked the industrial style of the Cult shops, asking if we could adapt that style for an interiors concept for the Aberdeenbar, with a possible roll-out to future bars that are planned for Glasgow, Edinburgh and London,’ says Mark Brunjes, managing director of CM Design. ’The company thinks out of the box and wants a punky, young venue with lots of attitude,’ says Brunjes.

Sited in former pub The Marischal, the 75m2 bar features a 4m double-height ceiling. CM Design is exploiting the height by creating a false mezzanine level that will display Brewdog’s range of beers. The roof of a disabled lavatory will double as a DJ booth.

Reclaimed antique gym flooring made from distressed wooden boards will clad walls and be used as shelving, while the bar is being built from reclaimed Victorian bricks.
