A tale of true love and east meets west has made its way to Design Week.

Michael Gore, creative director at NewshamGore, met his Slovak bride “in unusual circumstances”, he admits.

Livia was studying English over here and advertised for work as a cleaning lady to subsidise her studies. Gore answered the ad and not long after they fell in love.

“We got married in a fairytale-type castle,” the groom says of the Slavik setting. Local traditions were adhered to, including the smashing and sweeping up of a plate by the newly-weds after the ceremony.

“Hopefully, this tale will have a happy ending and we will live happily every after!” says Gore. And we hope so too.

Meanwhile, Gore is watching his waistline, as Slovak fare is notoriously fattening. But he could always keep in shape by doing his share of the cleaning.
