Warning of a con that may be targeted at designers

We were recently sent very important-looking documents from the Data Protection Agency requesting that as a design consultancy we need to register with the DPA as there has been a change to the Data Protection Act of 1984.

It went on to say that if we do not register it is an offence and we could be fined up to £5000.

We then received a final notice for information and a final demand for payment of £95 to register.

I have been checking up on this because it felt a bit suss and sure enough on the real Data Protection Government run website they say it is nothing to do with them and, is in fact, a con.

I am not sure if these people are hitting just on design consultancies, but it maybe worth letting people know so they can keep their eyes peeled.
