Belgo muscles in on the US
Belgian-style restaurant group Belgo is to establish a four-strong shortlist of design and architectural groups to spearhead a worldwide expansion drive.
The company, which currently operates two London restaurants, has joined forces with US group Apple South. A chain of 20 outlets in major US cities, operated as a 50/50 joint venture, is now planned. A further ten restaurant sites in the UK and Ireland are also being sought.
André Blais, Belgo development director, says co-founder Denise Blais is seeking a consultant to head up the design elements of the expansion.
Denise Blais has been responsible for much of the creative thinking behind the existing Belgo restaurants – the group aims to avoid a “chain” feel, making each restaurant different.
Ron Arad Associates handled Belgo Centraal and an extension for Belgo Noord, which was originally designed by Anand Zenz at the beginning of the decade.
