No clowning around with Circus advertising display

Further to your Vox Pop concerning the year’s great pieces of design (DW 18 December 2003), I’d like to add a nod of celebration to those involved in creating Coca-Cola’s remarkable new advertising display in Piccadilly Circus.

Further to your Vox Pop concerning the year’s great pieces of design (DW 18 December 2003), I’d like to add a nod of celebration to those involved in creating Coca-Cola’s remarkable new advertising display in Piccadilly Circus.

It’s the most impressive piece of consumer-facing technology I’ve seen recently and the more you know about display technology the more inspiring it is.

Many will consider the overt consumerist nature of this product detrimental to its cause – or indeed the fine line that it treads between acceptable public presence and vulgarity – however, as a piece of design and technical innovation it’s awesome. And, dare I say it, British.

If only those charged with producing public service information screens at our airports and train stations made such leaps…
