After last week’s news that Turner Duckworth approached the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Institute because it was looking for interesting projects to work on, which client would you most like to work for and why?

‘My dream client would probably be a notorious jailbird, one in search of the ultimate decadent setting in which to spend the last few hedonistic days partying with friends. Reachable only by private Lear jet, this state-of-the-art pavilion would be a fantasy haven for the senses, perched on the edge of an emerald pool, fed by a waterfall, surrounded by tropical birds and butterflies. Is it Ronnie Biggs? Just give me a call. Oh, and cash up front please, Ron.’

‘It’s not just what you do, it’s how you do it. We all know there’s truth in this. A client which appreciates and respects design and designers, which produces intelligent briefs and also believes in intuition and common sense, which likes the odd surprise, understands logic, has the guts and the power to make decisions and pays promptly – that’s the client I would most like to work for.’

JUSTUS OEHLER, PARTNER, PENTAGRAM

‘Forget global identities, I’m going universal. I’d like to have a crack at God’s identity. As He’s supposed to be all-forgiving, I think He’d make a pretty good client. Apart from that, just think of the applications: Interiors – churches; literature – the Bible; and even transport – angels. Some of the sub-brands might be a bit of a bugger though.’

GARRICK HAMM, CREATIVE DIRECTOR, WILLIAMS MURRAY HAMM

‘My Mum. She knows nothing about design, accepts my opinion, never alters her brief, is fun to work with and makes a great cup of tea.’

GUY MARSHALL, DESIGN DIRECTOR, IMAGINATION

‘Pure moments in your life are few. I always remember 8V0’s Hamish Muir talking about the design and terminology he saw on a death certificate for a baby. The words read something like: registry of dead minor, and it was printed on thin photocopied stock. Where was design then? In contrast I found this website: w

ww.chem.ox.ac.UK/cure cancer.html. It is a true illustration of how we can create some signal out of the noise we make. That is the sort of work I would like to be involved with.’
