Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is to have a new 4000m2 shopping area which will be designed by Virgile & Stone.

The consultancy is still at concept stage and is in talks with retailers. The aim is to create a retail area which “avoids cloning the traditional ‘high street feel’ of an airport” and differentiates Schiphol from its European competitors, says a Virgile & Stone spokeswoman. An appointment is yet to be made for the area’s graphics.

Meanwhile Vignelli Associates in New York is creating the graphic programme for the airport’s new World Trade Centre.
