Apicella to cook up Oxo Tower restaurant

Apicella Associates has won a pitch to design interiors for the 300 000 riverside restaurant at the Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank.

A 20m refurbishment of the eight-floor tower is taking place. Its architect is Lifshutz Davidson for Coin Street Community Builders (DW 3 December 1993).

Apicella Associates took part in a credentials pitch against Eva Jiricna Architects. Graphics are being designed by CDT Design in conjunction with the project management company Harkess-Ord.

The 900m2 second-floor restaurant will seat 360 people. It is due to open in the spring of 1996 and still has no name.

“We want to animate the space with strong lighting and bold use of colour, but at the same time we don’t want to disguise the fact that this is an industrial building,” says Lorenzo Apicella, consultancy director.
