Hoover’s Alpina High Filtration Vacuum Cleaner was overall winner in the 1995 Scottish Design Awards last week.

It was designed in-house and described as “truly world class” by jury chair Frank Binnie, chief executive of Scottish Design.

Tayburn McIlroy Coates won the award for best designed corporate brochure with its Rubbish Trash or Treasure brochure for client John W Hannay. Best annual report prize went to Navy Blue Design for its design for Cairne Energy, and the best corporate identity award was given to EH6 Design Consultants for Scottish Pet Insurance’s image.

Meanwhile, Scottish Design has taken the unprecedented decision to separate the 1996 Scottish Design Awards from the Scottish Advertising Awards. These were presented jointly this year.

“From next year they’ll have their own presentations,” says a spokesman from Scotmedia, which organised this year’s events.

“This will enable both design and advertising to create more categories and opportunities,” adds the spokesman.
