Flynn lands himself a plumb design award

A local plumber provided inspiration for Southport wheelchair-bound designer Gil Flynn, who has won the design category in the British Gas Tomorrow’s People award for his Mobility Grab Rail. Flynn’s hired help gave him a trolley and some tracking, which he used as a starting point for the development of his now-patented pull-up mechanism.

The design was originally a personal one to aid his movement around the house, and he says it will render obsolete many of today’s disabled aids.

The multi-million utility company gave Flynn a £500 prize for his efforts.
