LDP flavour for Gueller diner

Lumsden Design Partnership has created the interior, exterior and signage for chef Simon Gueller’s new restaurant, Gueller, in Leeds’ York Place conservation area. The consultancy was tasked with paying attention to different moods created by artificial and natural light.

“I wanted to get away from the idea of a ‘celebrity chef’ dictating the diner’s experience of a restaurant,” says Gueller. “The customer should be the central focus.”

With that in mind, LDP has introduced soft lounge seating around a bespoke central drinks display. It has concealed the kitchen away from the contemporary dining area behind a richly textured, coloured wall, accessed by an automatic sliding door. Internally lit seating divisions feature Jasper Morrison-designed freestanding lights and candles.

Outside, stainless steel signage and a freestanding menu board contrast with a red brick façade, and a ramp constructed from reclaimed bricks leads to the lobby.

Callum Lumsden, LDP managing director, says: “We have focused on creating an intimate atmosphere that complements the contemporary cuisine and old-fashioned service at Gueller.”
