The Small Business Service is launching a finance division to promote venture capital use, after budget measures to boost equity finance for small companies. SBS chief executive David Irwin has set a target to raise £1bn by 2004 to aid SMEs. ‘I can announce today that £57m has already been raised from the private sector … to create a total fund to date of £77m,’ he says.
