Harrison revamps fire station

Birmingham consultancy Harrison Design Company has been commissioned by pub chain The Old Monk Pub Company to renovate a former Manchester fire station. The building will be turned into a three-storey, state-of-the-art leisure complex called The Monastery.

Due to be launched in August, The Monastery is to be aimed at the 20- to 35-year-old age group. It will feature a restaurant, bar and club area on each of the respective floors. The three levels will be linked together by a central atrium with transparent staircase and glass roof.

HDC design director Dean Concannon says: “The first floor mezzanine will be very select and incredibly stylish within a casual modern environment, while the ground floor will probably be more like a pub than a bar, featuring reclaimed panelling and timber floors.

“The basement will house a club area for dancing and will be based on a contemporary theme.”
