Racing catamaran is a Bridge too far

Steffan Bufler, Design Bridge’s service branding unit creative director, recently said of hi-tech catamaran Team Philips: ‘It is a fantastic opportunity for Philips to get the brand seen right across the world.’

He was talking about the work the consultancy had done for the electronic giant’s sailing vessel, and was probably anticipating the exposure would be achieved through positive coverage and record-breaking achievements.

But the Dutch company was certainly getting its brand ‘seen across the world’ last week when the £4m racing catamaran, branded by Design Bridge, was battered into submission by mildly adverse weather conditions.

Let’s hope it is a watertight branding solution next time.
