Saatchi hit by staff losses

Saatchi and Saatchi Design has lost four of its staff this week. The two unnamed designers and two account handlers are understood to be setting up their own company.

The development follows the departure of the consultancy’s managing director Mairi Duthie who will be replaced by the consultancy within three weeks (DW 18 February).

“We are in the middle of interviewing candidates for the [managing director] position,” says Saatchi and Saatchi Design chief executive Martin Cotter. “We have five candidates altogether and we have only met two so far. We will probably narrow the selection down to two before offering somebody the job,” he says.

Cotter says he is not too concerned about the impact of the departing staff, though he wishes them the best of luck. “I don’t really know the details but apparently there are four people leaving to set up a new start-up company. I am not too concerned and none of them are directors,” he says.

Cotter says the outgoing four will not be replaced immediately.
