Design organisations’ competition will recede with time

I have just seen your Comment (DW 30 March). Yes, of course, you are right – there are far too many professional bodies in the design world.

But what’s happening, surely, is that, as design, a craft-based activity, professionalises itself, the various professional organisations who represent it compete for supremacy.

There is bound to be a bit of overlap at this stage. I suspect that, within the next five years, the number of organisations representing the design world will be down to one or two.

What we are currently looking at is power play. Perhaps we shouldn’t mind a bit of competition, though. It sharpens things up.
