The oil group plans to retain the Exxon, Mobil and Esso brands, although their future application is uncertain.

Meanwhile, Landor Associates (US) declines to comment on reports that it has been appointed by recently merged BP Amoco. Its pending merger with Atlantic Richmond, and the $59bn merger of TotalFina and Elf could see sweeping branding opportunities from oil corporations this year.
