Johnson Banks has been appointed to review the Commission for Architecture and Built Environment’s identity, as the organisation moves to clarify its positioning and deliver a greater consistency of brand.
It is the first update of the logo since Cabe’s inception in 1999 and follows John Sorrell’s appointment as chairman last December (DW 9 December).
The consultancy heads a team comprising Howard Fletcher, responsible for tone of voice, and Circus, which has recently completed a positioning strategy for the organisation.
A final decision on the status of Cabe’s current identity is yet to be made, but Johnson Banks creative director Michael Johnson believes it is unlikely to survive the review.
‘Cabe is currently hampered by a neutral image,’ says Johnson. ‘We’re working on a visual identity that more accurately reflects its energy and campaigning aspects.’
The revamped identity is expected to launch in late spring or early summer 2005, to coincide with Cabe’s move to new premises.
Meanwhile, the organisation has also announced that15 new members will join its Design Review Panel this year, including Jane Priestman and V&A masterplan architect Eva Jiricna.
The panel offers advice to planning authorities on the design of selected development projects in England.
