Millennium bottleneck predicted

The demand for exhibition and event design will outstrip supply as the millennium draws nearer, predicts John Slater, managing director of exhibition design and construction group Northcross.

Slater’s comments were aired at the Scottish Design Consultancy of the Year ceremony in Edinburgh last week. He claims UK businesses are in danger of having to abandon millennium plans as there will not be enough experienced designers to go round.

“There is going to be a bottleneck as we approach the end of the century, and loyalty to clients and to their designers is going to be a key factor,” Slater maintains.

“Clients and prospective clients should start to get their design teams in place if they want to see their projects being carried out.”

Slater reckons clients will have to show loyalty to their designers: “This could help the design industry. We are going to be in demand.”
