Marriott’s designs turn ‘mouthy’

British furniture designer Michael Marriott has been commissioned by Japanese company E&Y to create a collection of furniture and accessories on the theme of British comedian Tommy Cooper.

The collection the biggest project Marriott has so far undertaken will include furniture, light fittings, rugs, serviettes and tableware. Items such as tableware will not take an original form, but will be standard catering lines to which a graphic by Marriott will be applied.

Marriott chose the late comedian and magician as his theme and inspiration, describing the E&Y collection as a tribute.

“I like him because he’s mouthy,” says Marriott of Cooper.

The range is due to be launched in September, to coincide with London contemporary furniture show 100% Design.
