RCA study blasts desk designers’ creations

‘Quality time at the workstation’ may seem like a contradiction in terms, but we are at our desks day and night, so may as well get used to it.

But the pain can be alleviated, says The Royal College of Art’s Pascal Anson, not with 48 weeks holiday a year or a three-day working week, but by better desk design.

Anson’s research for The RCA’s Helen Hamlyn Research Centre suggests that ‘whatever desk designers think their products are for, they certainly are not for working at’.

Maybe that’s because desk designers don’t work at their desks and don’t think anyone else should, either. Hear, hear.
