Virgin Our Price plots first roster

Music and entertainment chain Virgin Our Price plans to establish its first design roster. But no action will be taken to recruit consultancies until current projects are completed.

Design manager Gerrie Smith says a roster will eventually benefit “everybody concerned”. Recruited a year ago from the British Airways design team, Smith confirms that the formation of a roster for all the chain’s design projects is one of her key objectives. But she stresses that designers are not being considered at the moment.

A number of consultancies which are already working for the retail group are likely to be considered for the roster. These will include MET Studio, which is working on a “unique” format for a Virgin Megastore due to open in King’s Road, Chelsea, before Christmas.

While MET Studio previously developed interiors for Virgin Atlantic’s headquarters in Crawley, it is the first time the design group has worked for the retail division of Virgin. Smith says she approached the consultancy in a bid to inject lively new interiors into stores.

The King’s Road store will be Virgin Our Price’s most significant opening this year and, at 1200m2 over three floors, one of the biggest. Smith says the store will function with a “think global, act local” ethos.
