Bowes Darby calls in receiver

Bowes Darby has gone into receivership with the loss of 12 jobs, seven of them in design. Key staff have been absorbed into Preston-based The Point.

Bowes Darby creative director Graham Bowes and senior creatives Sam Ross and Simon Birch join the Preston consultancy and will operate out of London.

“They will establish our London office, building on the Bowes Darby client list and adding to our roster which already includes names like BNFL and Asda,” says The Point managing director Simon Bailey.

The receiver was appointed to Bowes Darby last month, when the group closed its Manchester office. Bowes Darby founder Graham Bowes says: “The current climate and cashflow problems meant we could not continue.”

With the incorporation of new staff, four-year-old The Point will be 13-strong. “This link-up provides a blueprint for how successful design consultancies can operate in the 1990s,” says Bowes.
