Deepend to acquire in New York

New Media consultancy Deepend Design has appointed Webmedia Group managing director Peter Beech in the same role, as the group prepares to make an acquisition in New York.

Beech joined Deepend on Monday, replacing group founder Gary Lockton who takes on the new post of chief executive.

Beech will not be replaced at Webmedia Group, which suffered financial difficulties last year and is essentially now running on a consultancy-only basis (DW 16 January 1998).

Beech will primarily manage the UK branch of Deepend, with Lockton looking to grow the business internationally.

Deepend currently has a five-strong office in Rome and is on the verge of acquiring an unnamed consultancy in SoHo, New York. The group specialises in screen graphics. It has five full-time staff and draws on an additional pool of six freelance designers.

“We have already drawn up part of an agreement [with the New York group]. This would see us acquire the group and put someone in to run the business side of the operation. The consultancy would adopt the Deepend name and we would look to bring its offering into line with the London office, which includes all aspects of new media,” says Deepend chief executive Gary Lockton.

Lockton expects the deal details to be finalised in February.
