Parkview’s plan for Battersea given go ahead

The £500m redevelopment of Battersea Power Station finally looks set to go ahead: the London Borough of Wandsworth has given developer Parkview International permission to develop the entire site.

The plot is scheduled to house a 725-room hotel, a theatre and a river bus jetty, as well as retail outlets, restaurants and offices.

Work will start later this year on “enabling” the land prior to construction work, and talking to commercial companies about tenancy “to obtain some security before building work begins”, says a Parkview spokeswoman.

Construction work will not commence until late 2002, she adds, so design appointments, from interiors to signage, are some way off.

The site has been the subject of development debacle for well over a decade.
