Appleby Bowers has created the identity for a proposed leisure complex in Stone, Staffordshire, which was unveiled last week.
Hulme Upright Architects has created a masterplan for Stone Heritage and Leisure Trust’s proposed scheme, which is still in planning stages. Interior design work has yet to be allocated.
The plans involve a circular piazza incorporating a theatre, library, tourist information office, heritage display area and football ground, among others.
The identity is inspired by mosaic tiles in the Palazzo dei Conservatori piazza in Rome, designed by Michelangelo around 1575, says Appleby Bowers partner Bernie Bowers.
“Italy is the home of the piazza so we looked there for inspiration,” he says. “The logo is a contemporary take on the Michelangelo tile motif.”
The group won the work on referral.
