Arkitype Design Partnership

Arkitype is a Glasgow-based group of three friends: Steven Young, Richard Smith and Douglas Bryden, who met at the Glasgow School of Art Product Design course in 1996. They set up their group three years ago and have since exhibited at London contemporary furniture show 100% Design.

This year Arkitype fancied a change and exhibited at Top Drawer, the home accessories trade show, in London’s Earl’s Court. At the Glasgow collection it will be showing the Solo flatpack clock, which comes in a millennium silver edition as well as in white.

The group also designed Pods, a portable exhibition system for the Lighthouse building. It was approached with the idea of a clock a year and a half ago by Bruce Wood, who taught at Glasgow. All of its products, which include waste paper baskets, photo frames and vases, are sold in Japan, America and South Africa. Arkitype plans to become a multidisciplinary group, working in product design, Web design, exhibitions and interiors.

The group’s website is about to go live. Arkitype hopes to win more commissions and sell more products once they are established on-line.
