Timorous Beasties

Timorous Beasties comprises of Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, who met at Glasgow School of Art in 1984. The name of their consultancy comes from Robert Burns’ poem Tim’rous Beastie.

The consultancy, formed in 1990, has in the past specialised in printed textiles and has designed fabrics for companies such as Liberty’s and Warner Fabrics. It has also created one-offs for clubs, bars and hotels in Glasgow.

At the moment, Timorous Beasties is branching out into other disciplines such as interiors and collaborating with architects and design consultancies like their friends One Foot Taller.

One of its recent creations Sub-Surface laminates is an innovative and pliable material which has just won Millennium Product status. With it, they have produced the Pup range, a furniture collection which will be shown at the Glasgow Collection.
