Saville’s vision for Manchester

Peter Saville has completed the first phase of his work as Manchester’s creative director, announcing that the city’s core brand values should be ‘original and modern’ and that the first priority should be to recruit ‘visionaries and entrepreneurs’ rather than creating landmark buildings.

In an interview with the Financial Times Saville says the brand values ‘should be used to test whether everything, from new buildings and transport infrastructure to cultural events, project the right message’. At present, he says, the answer is predominantly ‘no’.
