November 1994

The Department of Trade and Industry reveals its plan to launch the CBS in spring 1995. This register is to be used by design advisers in the planned national network of Business Links.

January 1995

Consultancies are invited to apply for listing on the service, which will provide “a comprehensive database with detailed information on consultancies’ credentials”, according to the DTI.

July 1995

Having only managed to attract an estimated 200 applicants – a fraction of its original target of 10 000 applicants – the Government delays the launch of the CBS.

September 1995

New applications to the service are no longer being sent out and the future of the CBS is under review.
